The 90th Academy Awards

So the Oscars happened and took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood this past past Sunday. As per usual there were 24 categories recognized and it was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

The Shape of Water won a leading four awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Guillermo del Toro and really left a mark on the entirety of the Oscars scene. All the movies and talented actors and actresses that were nominated and recognized as winners were all undoubtedly deserving of praise. One moment in particular that made history was the Get Out and its infamous director, Jordan Peele, winning the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay making him the first black writer to win this award.

This monumental moment also broke the internet and videos of Halle Berry accepting the Oscar for Best Actress in 2002 for her role in Monster's Ball resurfaced and reminded the world that communities of color are fighting everyday for representation and recognition and that there is still a lot of history to make.
